Weekly Drash by Rabbi David Schiller

“My God, My God, Why have You forsaken Me?”
Crucifixion & Passover

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bible Study the book of Matthew during Oneg. Grab a plate of food and bring it to the study table.
Pesach a time for Spring Cleaning!
Exodus 12:19 ‘Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land.
Leaven, is also called Chametz.
So, what is Chametz?
Chametz is “leaven” or
any food that’s made of grain and water that have been allowed to ferment and “rise.” Bread, cereal, cake, cookies, pizza, pasta, and beer are blatant examples of chametz; but any food that contains grain or grain derivatives can be, and often is, chametz. Practically speaking, any processed food that is not certified “Kosher for Passover
may potentially include chametz ingredients.”
LOOK FOR A MORE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO CLEANING OUT THE CHAMETZ LATER THIS WEEK!
The fire of God is a fire of love, purity and power. We need His fire, every day of our lives.
If you receive this fire in your heart, the burning love of God, you will change and reach the world. This fire is stronger than death. This fire is more beautiful than life itself. This fire is more intense than anything that exists.
Ask God for His fire everyday, because He will give it to you. Say YES, let him set you on fire!
Without the fire of God you live without true life, without passion. Without the fire of God you have religion, human wisdom derived from the Bible and insights that appear to be godly but which do not result in the power of God. It is empty. It sounds nice, but it doesn’t change lives. It doesn’t heal the sick. It doesn’t set the possessed free. It doesn’t help the suffering.
The fire of God burned intensely in Yeshua. The fire of God changed Jerusalem into a place of fire on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out. The fire of God lightens up the hearts of people worldwide and it changes them more than anything else. Ask God daily for his fire, and bring it with you on Shabbat.
Just a reminder Eitz Chaim does not “pass the plate” we have a tzedakah box at the back of the sanctuary for tithes and donations.
2 Corinthians 8:3-4 For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints.
Some early believers suffered persecution that put them in a serious financial hardship. They relied on the help of the rest of the Body of Messiah which was provided with joy. The Body has grown to what it is today and more than ever some believers need the help of others. Supporting the saints financially is a biblical mandate that translates into great blessings for both those who give and those who receive, not to mention those reached with the Gospel and saved as a result. Who wouldn’t want to be part of a biblical win/win/win situation? ~Olivier Melnick
